My Best of the Decade: Equine Photography

This is my second installment in a series where I'm sharing my best photos of the decade.  Be sure to check out my first installment here, featuring photos I took in and around my hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY.  In this installment, I will share my best equine photos from the past decade.

I took this photo of a horse and rider at the backstretch of the Saratoga Race Course.

Another Sunrise at the Oklahoma Track:  August 11, 2014
My friend let me use her 300mm f/2.8 lens one morning as we photographed the horses at the Oklahoma Training Track in Saratoga.  Wow, what a lens!

Horse Bath Time:  August 16, 2014
A horse gets hosed off after running a race at the track in Saratoga.

Out of the Gate:  August 16, 2014
Horses leave the starting gate for the Alabama Stakes at the Saratoga Race Course.

One of the Last Summer Sunrises:  August 29, 2014
This is one of my favorite photos of horses and riders at the Oklahoma Training Track in Saratoga.

A Morning Workout Under the Fall Foliage:  October 12, 2014
It was my first time photographing the Oklahoma Track in the fall, and the morning light and beautifully colored foliage did not disappoint.

Horse Crossing:  October 12, 2014
A horse and rider make their way out to the Oklahoma Track on a brisk fall morning.

A Pony Peeks Through the Fence:  November 9, 2014
This pony at Equine Advocates in Chatham, NY, was standing so still I was able to get a 4 shot panorama of him with my 135mm f/2 lens, resulting in a portrait with a very shallow depth of field.

Frost Faire Horses:  January 24, 2015
Two horses leading a carriage at the Saratoga Battlefield's Frost Faire.

Polo Match in Saratoga:  August 7, 2015
A photo I took at the Whitney Cup polo match at Saratoga Polo Association.

Breakfast with Pharoah:  August 28, 2015
Saratoga had Pharoah Fever that weekend as Triple Crown champion American Pharoah prepared to compete in the Travers Stakes.  That morning he did a lap around the track to get the fans revved up.

Funny Cide Having a Snack:  August 28, 2015
While Funny Cide was at Old Friends at Cabin Creek in 2015, he enjoyed munching on some grass as his fans photographed him.

Zippy Chippy and Red Down South:  August 28, 2015
I took this photo of best friends Red and Zippy on my first visit to Old Friends at Cabin Creek in Greenfield, where I now volunteer, over four years ago.

Red and Zippy with Fall Colors:  October 12, 2019
Red Down South and Zippy Chippy of Old Friends at Cabin Creek graze in unison in front of a backdrop of gorgeous fall colors.

Beautiful Babydoll:  November 13:  2019
This is Babydoll, the horse I ride at Rolling Oaks Morgans in Gansevoort, NY.  This isn't the first photo I've shared of her, but it is my favorite I've taken so far.  The only place I could photograph her without her halter or bridle on was in her stall, which had very little available light, but my trusty Canon 5D Mark IV was up to the challenge.  What resulted was this portrait.

Roaring Lion Runs:  December 7, 2019
Roaring Lion, affectionately known as Leo, of Old Friends at Cabin Creek in Greenfield, NY.

Stay tuned for my next installment, where I will share my best photos from the past decade taken at Disney Parks and Resorts!
