Horse Sense Part I

So those of you who follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr know that recently I have developed an interest in photographing horses.  This summer I began volunteering at a wonderful facility called Nipper Knolls Equine Center in Gansevoort, NY and this fall I began taking riding lessons at Rolling Oaks Morgans, also in Gansevoort.  In this series of posts I'm calling Horse Sense, I will share some of the equine-related photos I have been taking.  In this post, you will see photos I took at Nipper Knolls and at Rolling Oaks.

My Cessna Experience

Last weekend, I attended a charity event to benefit Nipper Knolls Equine Center, the wonderful facility where I volunteer.  I won a one hour flight over Saratoga and Warren counties in a Cessna with the Northumberland Flying Club in a silent auction.  I quickly got in touch with pilot Mike Gulli to see if we could schedule the flight in the coming week while the fall foliage was still vivid.  Luckily Mike was able to fit me in on Friday, and so up we went!

Visiting the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge

This weekend I visited the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge in Wilmington, NY with some photography friends.  The last time I was there was in 2013, and they've made a lot of changes there since then.  It was a unique opportunity to photograph wolves, coyotes, bears, owls, and other species.

4 Ways to Capture Movement and Motion in Your Photos

Movement and motion can easily make an ordinary photo more compelling. When I’m out taking photos, I often look for ways to introduce this into my shots. They all require a certain amount of skill, but with a little practice, you’ll be catching the movement and motion bug in no time.

Best of 2017

2017 has officially come to a close, so I can now share my top 25 photos of 2017.  This year I had the trip of a lifetime when I traveled around the American Southwest, I got a nice taste of New England while visiting Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Cape Cod, I captured some sights in the Adirondacks, and I also captured a few photos in my own hometown of Saratoga Springs.  As always, it's a difficult task to narrow it down to just 25, but here they are!
